    Col James A. Peden, Jr., of Jackson, Mississippi, served in the Mississippi Air National Guard for more than 31 years, from 1968 until 1999. An attorney by profession, Col Peden served as Staff Judge Advocate for the 172nd Airlift Wing from 1974 until 1988 and as Staff Judge Advocate, State Headquarters, Mississippi Air National Guard, from 1988 until his military retirement in 1999. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Mississippi Magnolia Cross, and National Guard Bureau Minuteman Award. A frequent speaker at military law conferences, Col Peden served on numerous occasions as an adjunct professor at the Air Force. Judge Advocate General School at Maxwell AFB. Col Peden is a life member of both the Air Force Association and the National Guard Association of the United States. In 1991, he was selected the nation's Outstanding Air National Guard Judge Advocate. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi (B.A. summa cum laude, 1966) and the University of Mississippi School of Law (J.D., 1970). He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Bristol, England. He is a graduate of the Air War College. He has practiced law as a senior member of the firm of Stennett, Wilkinson & Peden, Jackson, Mississippi for more than 30 years.
