    Born in Cedar Rapids, IA, Sep 4, 1923. Attended Oregon State University but left after 2 years to enlist as a Marine aviation cadet in World War II. Designated a naval aviator July 1944. Combat in Pacific in F7F Tigercat.

    Received BSME from Oregon State after World War II. Called to active duty in Korea, flew F2H Banshee, RF80/F86 on exchange with USAF. Won Distinguished Flying Cross.
