    Colonel Darrow was bom 25 February 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio, and completed high school in North Hollywood, California. He received a bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Nebraska. Omaha, in 1966 and the master and doctorate degrees in Student Personnel and Guidance from East Texas State University in 1968 and 1971, respectively.

    He enlisted in the Air Force in January 1955 and received his commission and pilot's wings in September 1956 through the Aviation Cadet Program.

    From 1956 through 1963, he served as a pilot and instructor pilot in the F-86 and F-102 aircraft at several Air Defense Air Defense Command locations. Between 1963 and 1965, he was assigned to the 405th Fighter Wing, Clark AFB, Philippines, and performed duty at a number of locations including a year in Southeast Asia as a pilot.

    During July 1965 to May 1969 he was assigned to the Air Defense Command, Combat Crew Training Wing, Perrin AFB, Texas, He served as a weapons instructor and Chief of the Aircraft Engineering Section, From June 1969 to June 1971, he attended East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas, under the sponsorship of the Air Force Institute of Technology.

    From June 1.971 to May 1974, he was assigned to the AFROTC Headquarters at Maxwell. AFB, Alabama. He served one year each as; Junior ROTC Course Director, Chief of Evaluation and Research, and Chief of College Course Development.

    Following completion of an exchange tour as a student at the Royal Air Force Air War College, RAF Cranwell, England, Colonel Darrow was assigned as Commander of the USAFE base in Oslo, Norway. During the years 1975 through 1979, he served as Base Commander of installation in England and Germany,

    In 1979, he returned to Maxwell AFB as the Director of Operation Training, AFROTC Headquarters, He assumed the Presidency of the Community College of Air Force (CCAF) in June 1980 until retiring in October 1982.

    Colonel Darrow is a Command Pilot with more than 3,000 hours flying time. Among his decorations are the Legion of Merit, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Metal, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Air Medal. He concluded more than 27 years of active military service.
