This Wall of Honor Recognition is in honor of Col. Floyd Haywood, Jr. and Mrs. Lorene Haywood's 70th Wedding Anniversary on December 12, 2012.

Floyd's love for flight started when he was a young boy. He was a Bomber Pilot during WWII. He left to fight in WWII as a 2nd Lt. and came back as a Captain. While fighting in the European Theatre, he flew 50 sorties for the 716th Squadron in B-24 planes.

While Floyd was overseas fighting in the war, Lorene, also known as Pris, was helping at home in the States as a Rosie the Riveter. She worked for the Ford Co. in Detroit, MI at Willow Run. The Ford Co. had stopped making cars at Willow Run and instead was making planes. Lorene made baffles that controlled the air flow to cool the engines of B-24 planes!

Floyd and Lorene met in college in Arkansas. During their courtship, Floyd would fly over Lorene's family farm and drop love notes down to her. Back then, not everyone had a phone in their home. Now in their 90s, family is the most important priority in their life. They are truly a blessing to know!
