    Entered military 1939 with Minn. Nat'l Guard. Commissioned at Infantry OCS Jun '42. Pilot rating Dec '43, serving in troop-carrier in US and Pacific area. With Korean War, joined soon-to-be fabled 21st Troop Carrier Sq. (Kyushu Gypsies) with 40 C-47s, plus nine Royal Hellenic and Royal Thai Air Forces C-47s. Led second serial (20 C-47s) on Oct '50 rnajor paradrop in North Korea. In Dec was one of eleven C-47 pilots in rescue of nearly 5,000 wounded troops entrapped by Chinese hordes at Chosin Reservoir, North Korea, winning for 21st TCS first USAF Pres. Unit Citation. Then student/faculty at Air Command & Staff School, before serving as Exec. Off. to Deputy, USCINCEUR in Paris. Later, had duty on Air Staff in Pentagon and at Pacaf, before retiring in 1969. Is lone USAF inductee at Infantry OCS Hall of Fame.
