    Richard H. Wood entered the United States Air Force (USAF) Aviation Cadet program in 1952 and retired in 1973 as a Colonel. He flew over 6,000 hours in a variety of aircraft including 200 combat missions in Vietnam.

    Following retirement, he joined the faculty of the University of Southern California as a professor of safety science. He is the author of three books on aviation safety subjects and was president of Southern California Safety Institute.
