    Leaving home in Fresno,California, Richard headed for Pensacola, Florida with a commercial pilot's license in 1968. During the next two years he got his "wings" in jet aviation in Kingsville, TX, and joined his first squadron in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. After a year in the squadron in Japan he returned to Kingsvlle, TX, as an instructor until 1973. After moving back to California, Richard was able to get into a Marine Reserve unit at Alameda naval air station where he served for many years finally reaching the rank of Colonel. He is now a Captain for United Airlines.
