Col. Robert T. Miller, USAF (Ret.), 1921 – 1989, my brother, entered the U.S. Naval Academy with the class of 1944. He left the Academy during his Plebe year and joined the Air Force as an Air Cadet, earnings his wings as a fighter pilot in 1942. He completed 52 missions as a P-38 pilot in the European Theater during World War II. Shot down by anti-aircraft fire over Albania returning from one mission flying cove for bombers on a Ploesti oil field raid, he was rescued from the Adriatic by an Italian flying boat. After his European tour he went to the Pacific for 50 more missions, ending the War with our occupation forces in Korea. After WWII he remained in the Air Force, transitioned into jets, and flew another 30 missions as a fighter pilot during the Korean War. He retired after 30 years of service.
