Colonel Everett maintained two careers. He received his commission through the ROTC program at Ohio University in 1959 where he was a Distinguished Military Graduate and proceeded to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve for the next 30 years. His first assignment as an Infantry Officer was to provide security for the Division Headquarters of Ohio?€™s 83d Infantry Division. From 1966-1973 he served as an Intelligence Officer in a Psychological Warfare unit. In 1973 he entered the field of Logistics, serving in the 169th Support Group where by 1980 he had held every primary staff position in the unit. From 1980 to 1983 he commanded the newly formed 319th Petroleum Supply Battalion. This unit was given the primary mission of providing water for the Southwest Asia Rapid Deployment Force and during this tenure he was instrumental in the development of much of the Army doctrine on water supply in an arid environment. From 1985 to 1988 he was the Commander of the 169th Support Group, the primary Reserve unit in Northern Ohio. In this assignment, he held dual responsibilities including the day-to-day operations and training of about 100 active duty soldiers and 1500 Reservists in 18 subordinate units. His other responsibility was for the development of war plans for his wartime alignment of 44 subordinate units comprised of about 2000 active duty soldiers located in Germany, 2000 active duty soldiers stationed in the US, and about 2000 Reservists. During this assignment, he personally developed the logistics support plans for the defense of Central Germany. During his years of service, he completed the Advanced Training in both the Infantry and Quartermaster Corps, became qualified in Special Warfare Operations, became a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College, and a graduate of the Army War College.

Col. Everett?€™s other career was as an employee of NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio for 41 years. Initially serving as a Launch Vehicle Program Analyst, he eventually became Chief of the Launch Vehicle Procurement Branch being responsible for the contracting of Atlas-Centaur and Titan launch vehicles. When the launch vehicle contracts were reassigned to another NASA Center, he became chief of the Space Systems Branch awarding contracts for various space experiments to fly on Shuttle or unmanned launch vehicles. During his tenure he authored a NASA Handbook titled, ?€?Technical Analysis of Cost Proposals?€? and in 1979 authored an article titled, ?€?Cost Accounting Standards: Boon or Burden?€? that was selected as one of the top legal articles of the year by Federal Publications, Inc. and Published in their Yearbook.

Today, Col. Everett is recipient of the Marquis Who?€™s Who Lifetime Achievement Award, is retired, and lives with his wife, Nancy, in Erlanger, KY.
