The Troop Carrier Command, headed by Brigadier General Paul L. Williams, was part of 9th Air Force, U.S. component of the Allies. Expeditionary Air Force Troop carrier planes and gliders struck the opening blows of the European offensive on D Day.

Also stationed at U.S. Troop Carrier Base in France. Decorated with the Air Medal and the Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster for meritorious achievement in aerial flight in the airborne invasions of Southern France and Holland, as well as the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon for participating in D Day invasion of the Cherbourg peninsula.

Also received Bronze Campaign star on European Theater Ribbon for the Rome-Arno campaign in Italy. Active in all three major airborne invasions in European Theater.
