Honored by:
Colonel Zugschwert distinguished himself by being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross three times during his tour of duty as helicopter pilot (Army) and Operations Officer in Vietnam during 1967. He also received the Bronze Star medal twice and the Air Medal eleven times. He flew with the 269th Combat Aviation Battalion based in Cu Chi and operated in war zone "D," Phil Ho Wood, Etc.
He retired as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Aviation in 1981.
