Corp Clarence S. DeLong enlisted in the US Army Air Corps at 38½ years old to defend our country in the Air battles of Midway, Wake island and the Coral Sea as part of the 39th Ferrying Squadron, 11th Ferrying Group. Mr. DeLong was also a test pilot and mechanic for Piper Aircraft, Lockhaven, PA, where he was an assistant to William T. Piper Sr., and also had the opportunity to work with Eddie Rickenbacker. His love of flight helped to advance aviation for the piper Cub and the B17 Flying Fortress. Clarence DeLong 1904-1993.
