    Entered United States Air Force in January 1951and assigned to Hunter Air Force Base, Savannah, Georgia. Started primary pilot training at Hondo, Texas in 1952 training in the AT-6 trainer. After the completion of primary assigned to Williams Air Force Base, Gilbert, Arizona for jet training in the T-33A and F-80 A Shooting Star. Then assigned to Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, Georgia for instrument school after which was assigned to the Air Defense Command at Suffolk County Air Base on Long Island, New York flying the F-86D aircraft.

    After release from active duty, attended Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia and also joined the Air Force Reserve at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, Georgia flying the C-123-B and later the C-124B aircraft.

    After school worked at Lockheed Aircraft Company also located at Dobbins AFB. While at Lockheed, I was privileged to have conducted the ground compatibility refueling tests between the HC-130P air refueling tanker and Sikorsky's HH-53B and HH-3E helicopters prior to the first live flight refueling of a helicopter.
