Between and after his tours in Southeast Asia, he served as an F-4 Instructor Pilot (IP) and Flight Commander assignments both Stateside and in the UK and Europe. Captain Hayes left active duty in 1976 to pursue graduate work in business at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College where he graduated with an MBA in 1978.
