As a man who spent more than 30 years of his life as a soldier but whose first love has always been the spectacle of flight with its accompanying grace, grandeur, and freedom. Though he wasn't permitted to fly, he admired and respected the many men and women who could. He particularly reverenced those who gave their lives as pioneers, test pilots, combat pilots, and crews. His achievement is that he gave his best as a citizen soldier in honoring the country he loved through faithful military service.
