    Chief Warrant Officer Michael A. Bruce entered the US Army In the delayed entry program on the June 30, 1967. After receiving his appointment as a warrant officer and completing aviation training from late 1967 to mid-1968, Mr. Bruce was assigned to the 129th Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), serving as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam for one year. After his tour in Vietnam, he was assigned to Lane Army Airfield Field located at Ft. Wolters, Texas until early February of 1971.

    After leaving active duty Mr. Bruce joined the U.S. Army Reserve control group from mid-February 1971 to late 1980s. He began his Army Reserve status assigned to the 305th Aviation Company at Glenview, Ill. on the February 1, 1980. He was in the 305th AVN Co until the end of 1987.

    On January 5, 1988 Mr. Bruce went to Ft. Rucker to attend instructor pilot training. On the February 19, 1988 Mr. Bruce returned to the 305th AVN Co to serve as an instructor pilot for about seven months. From September 12, 1988 to late April, 1989 he was assigned to Co. B 2/228th Tactical Aviation Company located at Glenview. On the May 3, 1989 he was assigned to Company C, 158th Aviation Battalion and served as an instructor pilot until April of 1992.

    In mid April 1992 Mr. Bruce went back to school at Ft. Rucker to receive training to become a qualified instructor pilot on the UH-60 Blackhawk. In May of 1992 he returned to the 3/158th AVN in Glenview and served until early January 1995.

    In January 1995 Mr. Bruce was assigned to HHC 244th Tactical Aviation Group in Glenview and Ft. Sheridan, where he worked in the operations section until mid-summer, 1996. In August of 1996 he was assigned to the 85th Division HHC where he served as an information officer until his death in January 2002.
