    Thomas J. McNamara won the Distinguished Flying Cross on May 29, 1970 while serving as the pilot of an Army UH-1H helicopter in the Republic of Vietnam. As the citation reads, he “attempted a medical evacuation without armed helicopter fire support.” The action resulted in the successful evacuation of the wounded troops. Mr. McNamara continued a life-long service in the Army retiring in the rank of CW5.
