    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:

Cyril Calvert graduated from Brayton Air College, Lambert Field, St. Louis, Missouri. He was a mechanic at Beech Aircraft, Wichita, Kansas in May 1941 building AT-7 aircraft, a mechanic at Curtiss-Wright, St. Louis, on the AT-9, SNC, etc. He helped build McDonnell XP-67 bomber-killer, FD-1, FH-1, FH-2, FH-3, FH-4, XF-88, and F-101.

He wrote the operations and maintenance manuals for the Project Mercury capsule, Atlas Missile, and Project Apollo. He was the proposal editor for the C-5A Douglas Galaxy. He discussed why go around fuel was not provided for the space shuttle with test pilots. The answer was that each pound of weight and engine capabilities to handle this would add 8,000 pounds of additional structure.

He understood space flight in 1920 and 1930 from futuristic stories from scientists who explained things!
