    Honored by:

I checked out in the F-100 Super Sabre (Hun) in 1963 at Luke AFB, immediately after pilot training, and was assigned to the 494 TFS at Lakenheath AB, England. After four years there, sitting Victor Alert and flying the Hun all over Europe, I attended the F-100 Fighter Weapons School enroute to the 35th TFW at Phan Rang AB, South Vietnam in 1968. I flew 223 combat missions as the Wing Weapons Officer. As I left Vietnam, I had 1850 hours in the Hun. After a staff job at HQ TAC and staff college, I went to fly the F-4 at George AFB. In 1974, I was one of the four pilots chosen to participate in the congressionally-mandated fly-off between the A-7 and the A-10. Once completed, the four of us testified before congress and the USAF proceeded with development of the A-10. Shortly thereafter, I was assigned to Edwards AFB as a test pilot in the A-10 IOT&E and moved on to Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ, and commanded the 333rd TFTS. After National War College, I went to the Pentagon to lead the Fighter Requirements Shop for two years. In 1982, I was assigned to the 81st Tactical Fighter Wing as the commander. This A-10 wing was the USAF's largest with Two bases in England and four follow-on operating locations (FOL) on the Continent. After a staff job at USAFE, I commanded Air Training Command Centers at Denver and Wichita Falls, TX, before retirement in 1993. My wife and I currently live in Denver, CO.
