?»?Dan is the son of career American Airlines captain H. L. (Shorty) Henderson, who flew P-38's in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Dan holds a Commercial Airman Certificate with Airplane Single and Multi-Engine Land, Single-Engine Sea, and Instrument Airplane ratings. One of his instructors was Scott Grissom, son of the Mercury Astronaut Gus Grissom.
During his undergraduate education at Rice University in Houston, Texas (1967-72), Dan competed as a member of the Rice Parachute Team.
Dan has been a contributor to the National Air and Space Museum since the 1970's.
