Daniel James Mason has had a lifelong passion for flying. He began taking flying lessons at the age of 14. He went on to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, graduating in 1976. After graduation he flew for a few private companies prior to starting work for United Airlines in 1979. During his tenure at United, he flew multiple planes from the 727 to the 787 and went from a co-pilot to pilot/captain. While working as a captain, he also worked as an instructor for new pilots. He remained with United Airlines as a captain until his retirement in 2021. At the time of his retirement he was the 3rd most senior pilot at United Airlines and was sent off with a water cannon salute on his final landing at O?€™Hare International Airport. Though retired, Daniel takes any chance he gets to get back up in the air even just as a passenger traveling the world.
