David was born on September 4,1948 in Wichita, Kansas to Robert and Marian Maib. Early interest in aviation due to his father being a pilot. Learned to fly in 1967. Flew combat helicopters in Vietnam for the U. S. Army from 1969-1970. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism. Worked as a corporate pilot flying jet aircraft for many years. FAA Aviation Safety Counselor.
