David's involvement with flight began with model airplanes at the tender age of 8. This led to an appointment to and graduation from the USAF Academy, Class of 1961. After pilot training in Selma, AL, David served in Viet Nam as a Forward Air Controller. Subsequently he graduated from the USAF Aerospace Test Pilot School as an FAA employee. He was then assigned to the New York, New England and Northwest (Seattle) Regional Offices. Along the way he picked up a helicopter rating and was the FAA Project Pilot for the Sikorsky S-76. Upon retirement, he was a builder of an amateur built airplane, a Lancair 4P. He is now deeply involved in model airplanes again. Full circle. He and his wife, Christine Knowles live in Hood River, OR where they are involved in community affairs as well.
