    The son of a career Naval Aviator, Robert, and a WWII Navy veteran, Davy, he developed an early interest in aviation. He began flying in his teens, received his private pilot’s license at age 20, became a Coast Guard helicopter pilot at age 24 and went on to other civilian helicopter flying jobs in air ambulance, archaeology, corporate and others. He also developed an interest in safety. He got an MS in Safety in 1985 and PhD in Safety in 1995. He worked as an Accident Investigator for both Boeing and Bell and was the first VP of Safety at AmericanWest Airlines with his academic and work career he became an Adjunct Faculty member at both George Washington University and Embry-Riddle University.
