    David enlisted into the Army as a field artilleryman in 1959 and rose to the rank of Sergeant. He then attended the Field Artillery Officer Candidate School. Commissioned in 1963 as a second lieutenant he was selected to attend the Officer's Fixed Wing Aviator's Course. As an Army Aviator he was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division where he flew airplanes, was transitioned into helicopters and became qualified in the UH-l "Huey" helicopters. Assigned to Vietnam in 1965, he flew in support of the 5th Special Forces Group, Delta Project. While flying missions in support of Delta Project, he was awarded the Army's Distinguished Flying Cross Medal for heroism. He also received the Bronze Star, Air Medal with V Device and 14 oak leaf clusters. He served his second tour in Germany as the Aviation Officer with the 10 th Special Force Group. His return to Vietnam for a second tour was with the 101st Airborne Division, flying assault helicopter combat missions. He retired after twenty years in the Army as a Senior Aviator and parachutist.
    He is married to his wife Linda Susan. Their daughter Lisa Yahiro Wong and her husband Jeffery Wong, have a son Ryan Jeffery and a daughter Rachel Suzanne.
