    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Ms. Karen S. Dubey

Dean Dev Dubey has had a lifelong interest in aviation and space exploration. Although his ultimate dream would have been to become an astronaut, Dean decided to put his interest to work as an aerospace engineer.
After graduating from University of Maryland in 1997 with a bachelor’s of science and masters of science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Dean started working for Swales Aerospace in Beltsville, Maryland, and is currently still working there. Although still in the youth of his career, he has already worked on many important projects including the WindSat satellite, which is currently operating by measuring ocean surface wind vectors from space; the Burst Alert Telescope, on the Swift satellite, which is the first-of-its-kind multi-wavelength observatory dedicated to the study of gamma-ray burst science; and the Hubble Project Servicing Mission 3B, which was sent up in the Shuttle and resulted in a tenfold increase to the Hubble telescope’s optical capacity.
Dean’s love for space and aviation will most definitely grow with the added enjoyment he will get from visiting the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.
