Born MO 1896. Enlisted in the Aero Squadron Army Signal Corps 3 days after WW1 was declared. Served as a troubleshooter for aviation equipment. Called out when Quentin Roosevelt's plane was shot down in France. Toward the end of the war was allowed flight instruction and earned his wings.
