Derek is just beginning his career in science and technology. He built and launched model rockets as a young boy, and excelled in math and science. He was a 2000 – 2002 College Park Scholar for Science, Discovery and the Universe at the University of Maryland and is completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He hopes to pursue a career path in the field of engineering in a military or aerospace environment.
