    Honored by:

    Commander Dorman F. Griesinger, US Navy (Retired) served on board the escort carriers USS Kitkun Bay (CVE-71), USS Makin Island (CVE-93), and USS Savo Island (CVE-78). He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), Air Medal with two Gold Stars, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

    He participated in operations in the Philippine and the Okinawa Campaigns as a Naval pilot, and was serving onboard the USS Kitkun Bay at the time the ship was damaged by a kamikaze attack.

    His citation for the DFC, signed for President Truman by Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal, reads in part: "For heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight while serving in Composite Squadron Ninety-One, attached to the USS Makin Island, in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Ryukyu Island area, from March 26 through May 24, 1945. Completing his twentieth mission during this period, Lieutenant, Junior Grade...Griesinger contributed materially to the success of his squadron..."
