As Director of the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) Project for Morton Thiokol for attempting to delay the launch of the ill-fated Space Shuttle Challenger Crew (STS-51L) on 28 January 1986 and as Vice President of Engineering of Space Operations of for leading the redesign and requalification of the reusable SRM’s in returning the Space Shuttle to safe flight with the successful launch of the Discovery crew (STS-26R) on 29 September 1988.
