Charles Walter Kirkland, Jr. was born on November 29, 1939 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from North Park College in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1961 Kirkland received his DDS degree from Loyola University and in 1965 was state certified in pediatric dentistry. His appointments included Private Practice Dentistry, Departmental Owner & Chief of Dentistry for Laramie Medical Dental Center, and member of staff for Franklin Boulevard Community Hospital.

Kirkland contributed numerous articles to model aviation journals. His memberships include Xi Psi Phi, Ohio Gun Collectors Association, National Rifle Association, and the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He also received numerous ROTC awards from 1954-1957 and model aviation awards. Kirkland's hobbies include model aviation, student of arms and photography.
