    George L. Meshke was born in Yakima, Wash, Oct. 1930 to George and Marye Meshke, fruitgrowers. He attended Wn. State College, and then received his BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Washington in theatre arts. After serving in the Korean War (Adjutant Genl. Corps) he began teaching high school English and drama. In 1970 he accepted the position of drama director for Yakima Valley College. During the summers he worked in Summer Theatre companies, and from 1980-86 served as Regional Director for the American College Theatre Festival sponsored by the Kennedy Ctr. He was awarded a gold medallion by the Kennedy Ctr. for his work, and invited to serve as a delegate to K.C. Arts Dialogue in China, USSR, and Australia. He was awarded the NISAD Medallion from University of Texas for contribution to college theatre. He retired in 2000 and now serves part time as an Adjunct professor at Central Wn. University.
