    James C. Wu is a scholar-educator. He is the president and chief scientist of Applied Aero, LLC, an aerospace research company. Concurrently, he is the chairman of the board of directors of the non-profit Aerospace Science Foundation, a private foundation organized and operated for the advancement of science and education in aerospace engineering.
    Dr. Wu studied mechanical engineering and earned a Ph. D. degree from the University of Illinois in 1957. He served as a research staff member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an assistant professor at the Gonzaga University and a Visiting Scientist at the European Atomic Energy Commission. He joined the Douglas Aircraft Company as a research specialist in 1959 and rose through the ranks to become a research group leader, a supervisor and a research branch chief directing Douglas's plasma physics and aerothermodynamics research. He joined the faculty of Georgia Institute of Technology in 1965 as Professor of Aerospace Engineering, a post he served until 1993.
    Dr. Wu has a distinguish record as a scientist and educator. He served on numerous scientific committees, advisory boards, and as a consultant, officer or chairman of many corporations, professional societies and international scientific conferences. He serves on editorial boards of many international scientific journals and as a referee for many professional journals and government research agencies. He authored numerous research articles and delivered hundreds of research lectures and keynote addresses at universities, research institutes and scientific conferences throughout the six continents of the world. He is a recipient of numerous research contracts, grants and awards. His research brought forth major advances in theoretical and computational aerodynamics.
    Dr. Wu was born in China and studied mechanical engineering at the National Taiwan University before coming to the United States in 1953. Being rooted in both American and Asian cultures, he is deeply committed to community and public services aimed at enhancing the communication and understanding between the East and the West. He served as a senator of the Georgia Tech Academic Assembly, a director of the Chinese American Association, president of the National Association of Chinese Americans - Atlanta Chapter and chairman of the board of the Chinese American Institute.
    Dr. Wu received a large numbers of awards in recognition of his major professional and civic contributions. He is an honorary professor at several prestigious universities and received the Chinese National Friendship Medal in 1999.
