Dr. Kenneth Sowles was added to the Wall of Honor in 2023, as part of his 90th birthday celebration.

As a young Marine, he flew Corsairs as a sergeant in the Korean War. After that war, he returned to civilian life and earned his PhD in Forestry. To help in his forestry work he became a bush pilot, and flew a Cessna Turbo 206 while working for the University of Idaho. As part of this work, he flew into many remote areas throughout the Americas, often landing and taking off from remote places where there were no standard landing strips nor runways.

His work in forestry led to an opportunity to serve as a senior consultant in Forestry for the World Bank, where he spent time working in many locations on other continents abroad, to help governments with their forestry programs.

His enthusiasm for flying carries on with family members who now own and fly their own planes. Visiting air museums and talking with volunteers who served as pilots during wars, reading about and discussing the latest in air and space developments still keep him connected to flying and to those who served.

Wall of Honor profiles are provided by the honoree or the donor who added their name to the Wall of Honor. The Museum cannot validate all facts contained in the profiles.
