    Dr. Linda A. Poffenroth, MD, B.Sc.,M.Sc.,FRCPC is the former Director, Health Protection/Medical Officer of Health, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch - Manitoba Region, Health Canada. On the occasion of her retirement after many years of distinguished service in public health, her colleagues and friends wish to honour her work and dedication. Dr. Poffenroth is an avid aviation enthusiast, knowledgeable and passionate about birds and aircraft, both civilian and military. She has an extensive photography collection of her many sightings. As a Medical Officer of Health serving First Nation communities, including those in remote and northern areas of Manitoba, Linda often flew to First Nation communities via commercial jet and turboprop, small bush planes and float planes, and helicopter. She welcomed and embraced these opportunities to fly to and visit these communities, where she was always welcomed. She played a key leadership role in managing pH1N1 outbreaks in a number of Manitoba First Nation communities in 2009, as well as advising on the mass vaccination efforts to curtail further spread. She is well published and recognized for her expertise and leadership in public health, highly regarded by family and friends, and deserving of this recognition for her passion in her work, as well as her passion for aviation.
