    Born November 1929 in Hamburg, Germany. Studied mathematics and physics at the Universities of Hamburg, Goettingen and Mainz from 1949 to 1956. Doctorate 1956. Engineer-Mathematician at Army Ballistic Missile Agency in Huntsville, Alabama 1957-1960. Staff Scientist at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center 1960-1969: Involved in research and application of guidance theory and celestial mechanics for Apollo Lunar Landing Project. Awarded the NASA Medal for Exceptional Scientific Achievement in 1966. Professor of Mathematics at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee 1969-97 continuing research in celestial mechanics. Member of: National Space Society, Planetary Society, AMS & SIAM.
