Ron was Chief Operating Officer of Qantas Airways and retired as its CEO in July, 1986. He was honored by the Australian Government and awarded Member of the Order of Australia for services to the aviation industry. He was awarded Honorary Fellowship of the UK Royal Aeronautical Society – the world’s highest award for aviation contributions. Ron graduated as a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering from Sydney University and flew as a pilot and flight test engineer for 3 years, 1943-1946 in the Royal Australian Air Force.
