World War II veteran under Col. Russell W. Volckmann in the Philippines, USAFIP, NL; served as S-2 Officer 14th Infantry Regiment 1994-46. At one time have directed bombing enemy positions during the retreat of Gen. Lamasita to Northern Luzon (Philippines) that led to Lamasita’s surrender in Kiangon, Luzon (Philippines) in May 1945 and hostilities culminated in late June 1945. Got shifted and saw service as ordnance to Okinawa, 1946.
My unit did the arduous demobilization of various war materials in the Philippines and in Okinawa 1947 up to 1949. Much of the military surpluses were sent as reparations – much went to China; tons and tons/millions of tons of surpluses and which I now see as a mistake because China became “Red”, an enemy.
