^Dr. Ying-Chu Lin (Susan) Wu, was an educator, researcher and entrepreneur. She - received her Ph. D. in 1963, first female Ph. D. in Aeronautics from Caltech. Dr. Wu's interest was in magneto hydrodynamics (MHD) power generation. She received many honors and awards for her achievements, including the International Faraday Medal for MHD Power Generation, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Plasmadynamics and Lasers Award, the Society of Women Engineers Achievement Award, among others.
Dr. Wu had two successful careers/First she taught at the University of Tennessee - Space Institute for 23 years. In 1988 she started ERC, a small high technology company Tullahoma, Tennessee. In 1993, ERC started offering internet support services, the first local ISP in the middle Tennessee. At the time of her stepping down as President and CEO, ERC had grown from a two-person company to nearly 300 employees.
Dr. Wu was a Presidential Appointee served on the National Air and Space Museum Advisory Board from 1993 to 2000. She was also a member of the NASA Aerospace
Technology Advisory Committee and first chairman of its Information Technology Subcommittee.
Dr. Wu Is married to Dr. Jain-Ming (James) Wu. They have three children; Ernest Han-Ping, Albert Han-Tsing and Karen Han-Whea Wu.
