?»?On 16 March 1971, then Lt Nuss delivered vitally needed combat supplies to Khe Sahn fire support base during operation Lam Son 719. Hampered by marginal weather, mountainous terrain, and enemy fire, Lt Nuss using his airborne radar guided his C-130 crew to the extremely short assault strip and successful delivery of supplies to ground troops under enemy attack. After Lt Nuss returned from Viet Nam, he served the US Air Force as a USAF Navigator School instructor and curriculum developer, F-4 Weapons Systems Officer and Flight Examiner, and Electronic Warfare Engineer until his retirement in 1989 as a Major.
