    Ed Jared was born in Monroe, LA, and began his flying career by soloing in 1938 at age 17. He became a flight instructor at Darr Aero Tech in Albany, GA, teaching British and American cadets to fly. He joined the 4th Ferry Gp., then transferred to the 7th Ferry Gp. In Great Falls, MT, flying C-47s and numerous other military aircraft around the U.S. in 1944. In December of that year, he was sent to 1328th AAFBH, Misamari, India as a C-46 pilot, making 86 round trips over “The Hump”. After returning to the U.S.A in 1945, he remained active in the USAF Reserve until retirement in 1965. He was recalled for the Korean Crisis in 1951 for 21 months and, again for a short period during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1972.
