At the age of 20 he joined the United States Army Air Corp. Received training in different activities of flying and awarded Air Crew Member wings. Was assigned to a B-17 bomber as a tail gunner. Flew to England and joined the 8th Air force. Participate in bombing missions over Europe (World War II) until shot down and captured by German soldiers after parachuting from disabled plane. Imprisoned at Stalag 17 in Austria for 13 months. Liberated by U. S. Army and returned to the United States. Married a hometown girl, Dorothy and raised two daughters, Susan and Wendy and a son Edward.
