    Civil Air Patrol cadet at 14 (1950-54), rank Capt., Observer Rating.
    USN Air Reserve (1954-56), rating AT3rd Class, ECM Operator on Patrol Bombers. While in the Reserve, he was also enrolled in USAF ROTC.
    In 1956, he received a direct commission in the Maryland Air National Guard (ANG), earned his pilot wings and was a Special Operations pilot in the Guard until called to active duty (1963).
    USAF Regular Officer (1963-1981). Two tours in Southeast Asia, one year with VNAF (Vietnamese Air Force) (1963-64) and one with the Royal Laos Air Force (1972-73).
    While on active duty, he flew 20 different aircraft for a total of 4,700 plus hours and has Command Pilot Wings. He flew six years as a training IP, six years as a fighter IP in Special Operations and nine as a transport pilot. Retired in 1981 with 27 years service.
    In retirement, he headed an Air Force Junior ROTC program and now is a Group Commander in Civil Air Patrol.
    Awards: DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross), BS (Bronze Star), MSM (Meritorious Service Medal - 1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Air Medal (6 Oak Leaf Clusters), AFCM (Air Force Commendation Medal -- 1 Oak Leaf Cluster), plus nine other medals and ribbons.
    Authorized to wear VNAF (Vietnamese Air Force) and RLAF (Royal Laos Air Force) Pilot Wings.
    Education: B.S., M.A.
