    Edward was employed with United Airlines from July 6, 1949 to May 1997 as a Boeing 747 Second Officer/Career Flight Engineer and was also a 747 Line Check Airman. He was the number one Second Officer/Flight Engineer on the seniority list and had flown the 747 for 25 years up until his medical leave in 1996.

    While on medical leave he conducted fuel consumption studies for United Air Lines and was a subject matter expert on the 747. He received an "Award of Merit" from United Air Lines for his dedicated services.

    After World War II he was hired by Philippine Airlines as a Flight Engineer and was one of the first pilots to be issued a license by the new Philippine government in 1948.
