Edward O. Smithdeal was the pilot of a B-24 in World War II, assigned to Bomb Group 376 stationed at Banghazi, Libya. He completed 25 bombing missions against German-held territory. The most famous was the August 1, 1943 low-level bombing of the oil refineries at Ploesti, Romania. He was born April 19, 1920, now (2003) lives in Arlington, VA. His highest rank was Captain.
