Ed Heller flew two European theatre combat tours and two extensions as a member of the 352nd Fighter Group totaling 520 combat hours and credited with 19.5 enemy aircraft destroyed.
In 1952 Ed Heller was in Korea commanding the 16th Fighter Group of the 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing. By January 1953 he had flown 46missions and shot down 3.5 MiGs and been promoted to Lt. Col. He was shot down suffering a compound fracture in his left leg. He was captured by the Chinese and released in 1955.
He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
