    As a US Army Air Corps pilot in New Guinea, 1942-1943, ERNEST C. FORD flew364 combat missions, 91 before his twenty first birthday and a total of 225 as a Staff Sergeant Pilot. Received a Battle Field Commission and flew 139 additional combat missions as a Lieutenant. This was the record for any Army Air Corps Pilot in World War II. Awarded six Distinguished Flying Crosses and two Air Medals.

    In Korea during June- July 1950 flew 21 more combat missions and received a third Air Medal. All 385 combat missions were flown as First Pilot including the flight from the United States to New Guinea.
