Eugene Ronald Harmond was born in Newark, New Jersey, but he grew up in Savannah, Georgia. He received a B.A in Industrial Arts from Savannah State in 1970. He later became a high school Industrial Arts teacher and Varsity Soccer coach in the De Kalb County School District at Gordon High School in 1972.

In 1973, he began his career with Delta Air Lines and made history by becoming the first African American male flight attendant for Delta. In February 2016, Mr.
Harmond received the Trailblazer Flight Attendant Award from Delta Air Lines. He received an acknowledgement from President Barack Obama, Congressman and civil rights activist John Lewis and Congressman David Scott from Georgia's Thirteenth District commending him for his contribution to the civil rights movement. He received a resolution from a member of the House delegation of the Georgia General Assembly, DeKalb County. In Stars in the Sky, award-winning Casey Grant recognized Mr. Harmond
    for his many outstanding accomplishments.

Still a flight attendant, Mr. Harmond will soon have the distinction of serving in that position for fifty years.
