The Allen family smoke and hot air balloonists are still flying since 1874. The five generations started when Ira returned from the Civil War and started building and flying his own balloons with his brothers Martin and Comfort. The next generation included "Captain" Eddie Allen who received the Montgolfier Diploma and whose equipment was donated to Air and Space. The third generation toured the entire country and the fourth and fifth generations are flying modern hot air balloons.
