He has been a member of AOPA since 1951. From 1935 to 1937 he enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corp. In October 1935 he had his first airplane ride in a Stinson Reliant Gullwing Plane. In January of 1940 he took flying lessons at Wilson Airport in Illinois and obtained his private license and continued flying privately thru 1968. His first solo flight was in a Kenner Bird Biplane.
He was in the Army Air Corps from July 1942 to January 1946. In 1942 and 1943 he flew PT19 and PT26 planes. While in the Army Air Corps he went to Denver for photography training and returned to Texas to photograph planes and people. While in Texas he also went to aviation school.
He worked for Vapor/Vap-Air Corporation from 1954 to 1981. He was the chief test engineer for Vap-Air which made aircraft cabin temperature controller systems and de-icing equipment. Some of the planes that these systems and valves would go on were DC8 Airliners, Air Force, Navy and Marine planes.
Airplanes and photography are still his hobbies.
